A Single Day On the Moscow Subway, in 2 Minutes

A time-lapse film highlights both the serene and the chaotic nature of the city's famous subway system.

Russian cinematographer Sasha Aleksandrov has nicely captured a typically chaotic day in the life of the Moscow subway in the above time-lapse video. The opulent stations and busy rush hours come in to sharp focus thanks to Aleksandrov's use of wide angles and variable film speeds.

Moscow's subway system is the world's second largest, hosting between 6.6 and 9 million daily riders along 190 miles of track.

Author's note: An earlier version of this article stated Moscow's subway system hosted 9 million daily riders. Numbers vary significantly on this statistic. Taken into account, it is still the world's second largest subway.
