Thousands of protesters gathered in cities across the United States to decry George Zimmerman's acquittal. Zimmerman shot unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin. The ruling was issued Saturday evening.
U.S. President Barack Obama called for calm on Sunday. "We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this," the President said in a statement.
Demonstrations in Los Angeles and New York drew especially large crowds, with protesters marching down the 10 Freeway in L.A. and hundreds occupying the heart of Times Square in Manhattan.
