Superfans Are Building a Giant 'Star Wars' Universe in Manchester

Take a tour of Jabba the Hutt’s palace, a life-size X-wing, and that weird cantina full of kloo horn-playing musicians.
For the Love of the Force

Ever dream of sharing beers with that scrotum-chinned alien from the iconic Star Wars tavern scene? Well, now’s your chance, as George Lucas mega-fans are recreating the Mos Eisley Cantina, and many other famous set pieces, for a giant meet-up next week in Manchester, England.

For the Love of the Force is, in the words of its organizers, the “world’s biggest, and most exhilarating independent Star Wars fan convention ever.” The folks behind it have been laboring for a year to build a painfully accurate tribute to the sci-fi classic, including not just the musical cantina (where you can actually drink blue-milk cocktails) but a full-size version of Luke Skywalker’s X-wing, Jabba the Hutt’s palace (complete with Salacious Crumb), a formidably gunned Scout Walker, and a two-story Ewok Village (second floor free to VIPs only, sorry).
