An Entire Atlas Devoted to 'Abandoned and Forsaken Destinations'
A new book allows readers to revisit dozens of largely inaccessible sites.
There aren’t any figures in Karin Doering-Froger’s illustration of Gagnon. There are lush pines, meandering branches of the Manicouagan Reservoir, red clapboard structures with concrete porches and white bricks. There’s a single felled tree trunk. There’s an industrial plant. But no employees, no boats hauling goods along the water.
The absence is an ominous sign.
