There's a classic McSweeney's list that notes the similarity between the names of prescription drugs and heavy metal bands. Golgoroth? Diovan? Xalatan? Flonase? Take two and call me in the morning.
Now, some anonymous innovator has made the same discovery about gay bars and steak houses. While drugs and metal bands tend to opt for pseudo-Greek, with a smattering of x, y, and z, this new category has different priorities.
I can't quite say why, but the Steak House or Gay Bar quiz is really hard. The names are largely abstract, American, and hint at some kind of frontier-hardened manliness. Silver Slipper? Remington's? Woodward Cocktail Bar? Fire and Spice? The answers, respectively: steak house, gay bar, gay bar, steak house.
