A Bloomin' Good Map of U.S. State Flowers

Take a moment to lavish in the beauty of America’s chosen petals, and laugh at Maine for choosing “pine cone.”

Spring has blossomed across most of the U.S. (sorry, New England!), and so have many state flowers—poppies the color of wood embers in California, bluebonnets masquerading as fallen Concord grapes in Texas, the ethereal-but-poisonous South Carolina climber known as jessamine that, for some reason, doesn’t rank among the top names for Southerners.

Now, thanks to the efforts of a budding cartographer, we can see all the state flowers spread out on a map like a gorgeous, slightly OCD petal collage. Redditor jymhtysy, a California student who wishes to remain anonymous, says “[I have] no idea why I decided to make this, I guess flowers are just really cool.” The creator adds: “I wouldn’t say I’m exactly interested in data or botany? I do find the topic interesting and felt that there should be a better map of it.”
