I'm not totally convinced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on this one, but they claim that this map is based on surface temperatures from Tuesday. Maybe it's just the case that water and fire elementals really battled it out over the continental fifty this week. But I'm having a hard time calling what I'm seeing a "cold front." This is A Song of Ice and Fire territory.

You may want to get used to it. This projection is a first look at the new and more detailed weather projections from the National Weather Service, which just adopted something called the High Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model for tracking the weather. The HRRR model makes more accurate weather tracking possible because it looks at patterns in much higher resolution, and at faster rates.
