37 people were killed after two boats collided.

At least 37 people were killed when two ferries collided off the coast of Hong Kong. As the Guardian reports:

One of the ships went down very fast – within 10 minutes of the collision – giving any passengers trapped inside very little time to escape. There were several dozen people in the water to be rescued, police reports said. A number of emergency boats appeared quickly on the scene as two helicopters shone beams over the site. Twenty-eight people were confirmed dead at the scene, as injured and shocked passengers were transported to hospitals on Hong Kong Island.

Officials have promised to launch an inquiry. Below photos from the aftermath of the accident:
