Gay marriage became legal in Washington state today, and some couples didn't waste any time tying the knot. According to the Seattle Times, more than 200 couples queued up last night, in anticipation of a special midnight opening of the Seattle administration building. At 12:01 a.m., the first license was issued to Pete-e Petersen, 85, and Jane Abbott Lighty. The couple has been together for 35 years.
Lined around the county's downtown Seattle administration building, snaked through a winding queue and, finally, crammed into a processing room, the couples cried, shared love stories and passed around flowers.
