What is CityLab?

CityLab is dedicated to the people who are creating the cities of the future—and those who want to live there. Through sharp analysis, original reporting, and visual storytelling, our coverage focuses on the biggest ideas and most pressing issues facing the world’s metro areas and neighborhoods.

CityLab, originally called The Atlantic Cities, was launched in September 2011. CityLab rebranded in May 2014 with a new site and an expanded editorial mission. The current version of the site was launched in June 2017, highlighting a new focus on five areas of urban coverage—design, transportation, environment, equity, and life—as well as a new Solutions hub to collect the best ideas and stories for an urbanizing world.

Technical Support

I’m having trouble printing your pages. What can I do to ensure acceptable printouts?

You can use the Print button located next to the social media icons to print articles (click the three horizontal dots to expose the print option).  

Which Web browser is recommended for viewing the site?

Our site is designed to be fully supported by recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.

I’m having a hard time reading the text on your site. Can I increase the size of the text?

You can use the menu on your browser to adjust font size, or on a mobile device you can pinch and zoom.

Google Chrome: Click the settings button (located to the right of the address bar). Part way down the list is a Zoom option. Use the plus sign button to increase text size.
Firefox: In the browser’s menu, go to View. Select Zoom. Select Zoom In.
Safari: In the browser’s menu, go to View. Select Zoom In.
Internet Explorer: Click the Tools option (gear icon), go to View, and then select Zoom.

I'm not using an ad blocker. Why am I getting a message asking me to unblock ads?

Some browsers automatically install ad blockers for you or your ad blocker may not have whitelisted us properly, so you may be running one without knowing it. Otherwise, you may be running a code blocker, such as a JavaScript blocker, PageOne or Ghostery, that is blocking our ads from running.

To see instructions on how to make an exception for CityLab, select "Un-Block" from our message, and then select “Whitelist” to see if you are running any of the ad or tracking blockers listed. Even if you are using a blocker that is not listed, the process to whitelist our site is similar across blockers.

Are your ads secure?

We require https compliance from our advertisers and we actively working to ensure all ads are secure. We are working toward a fully secure website, which will ensure that you do not see insecure scripts or ads.
