Guarding your belongings is hard to do when the thief is one foot tall and can fly.
Tourists are often warned to protect their belongings from thieves, but that's kind of hard to do when the felon in question is one foot tall and has the power of flight.
Nathalie Rollandin sitting on a bench along the San Francisco shorefront recently, munching on a crab sandwich, when all of a sudden a seagull lurched in and snatched her GoPro videocam while it was recording. (Totally a seagull move, right?) What followed was a frantic journey over the waves before the gull decided to land on somebody's deck to examine its plunder. Finding it inedible, the gull lost interest and flew off into the sunset.
Rollandin, who according to her YouTube profile is from France, writes that she raced down the waterline to try to keep up with the kleptomaniacal critter. "On my way running after the seagull I met a woman and desperately asked, 'Have you seen a seagull flying with a camera in his mouth?'" she says. "She looked at me like I was totally crazy." She managed to track down the camera, though, before another beast of the wild could heist it again.
For Rollandin, the thievery must've been especially traumatic, because these beaked crimes seem to happen all the time in France. OK, maybe just once: This guy's GoPro was also lifted by a sticky-clawed gull in Cannes. The bird seems quite irate upon discovering that it's not delicious:
