Working Out Is Healthy, But It May Lead You to Drink More Than You Should

That super-fit dude you see going to the gym every morning probably consumes more alcohol than you, according to new research.

There's certainly evidence for the so-called "runner's high." It also appears, however, that alcohol is pretty popular among those with an active lifestyle.

"In contrast to proposals that physical activity can be a substitute for alcohol use, people who engage in greater overall physical activity consume more alcohol on average than less-active peers," a new Health Psychology study concludes. "[F]or the majority of the population who are low- or moderate-risk drinkers, these data suggest that physical activity interventions may be unlikely to reduce—and may even increase—alcohol use," the seven-person research team adds.
